Why we exist

Mission and vision

Our mission

To help leaders and organizations turn ideas into impact through effective strategy, communications, advocacy, coalition building, partnerships and community engagement.

Our vision

To build a trusted consulting firm that helps leaders and mission-driven organizations strengthen their institutions, engage their communities, influence public policy, communicate their stories and achieve measurable results.

Our approach

Integration is the method, not a slogan

Clients come to us with goals, not with a request for a particular discipline. A school network wants a policy changed. A foundation wants its work understood. A community leader is deciding whether to run. Each of those goals touches government, communications, community relationships and partnerships at the same time, and treating them as separate projects is how good efforts stall.

So we build one strategy that connects them: strategy to communications, communications to community, community to advocacy, advocacy to policy, and policy to impact. It is also why the firm has two principals whose careers cover the two halves of that chain, the political and governmental side and the communications and partnerships side.

The principals

Ronald C. Rice, Founder and Principal of Rice Public Impact Group

Ronald C. Rice

Founder & Principal

Ron C. Rice has over 25 years of experience in public policy, political campaign management, PK-12 education, urban development and community empowerment initiatives, as an executive state government appointee, a two-term local elected official on the Newark Municipal Council, a candidate for Congress, a registered federal lobbyist and a veteran of more than 40 local, county, state and federal political campaigns.

That experience gives RPIG clients a practical understanding of how government, politics, public policy, advocacy and community relationships intersect. His work focuses particularly on political and campaign strategy, public affairs, government relations, advocacy, coalition development, community engagement and strategic counsel.

A background in public life

Government is not an abstraction to us

Ron grew up around public service. His father, Ronald L. Rice, represented Newark in the New Jersey State Senate for more than three decades, and Ron went on to win his own seat on the Newark Municipal Council, representing the city’s West Ward from 2006 to 2014. He has sat on the dais, run for office, built coalitions across a city, and then worked the other side of the table as an advocate asking legislators for their votes.

That is the vantage point RPIG offers clients: we know what a council member hears in a hearing, what a legislative aide needs before a meeting, what a community wants to be asked before it is asked to show up, and what a candidate feels the week before a debate.

What you get

One strategy, one team, no gaps between the disciplines

Access is not the goal

Our objective is not simply to help clients reach decision-makers, but to develop the strategy, relationships, messages and coalitions needed to advance their objectives once they are in the room.

Communications with a purpose

We build practical communications strategies aligned with an organization’s broader objectives, not communications activity for its own sake.

Partnerships that create value both ways

Rather than treating sponsorship as fundraising, we help organizations build partnerships that create value for the organization and its partners.
